Description

An APS-C chip is a big size among one shot color CCD cameras. The QHY8L/8PRO is a 6 mega pixel camera with APS-C size SONY CCD sensor.
 
SONY's CCD sensor is excellent due to its low thermal noise. Especially with QHYCCD's 2-stage TEC and thermal construction design, QHY8L has the cooling capability of -40C° below ambient. It captures a very clean image even in 30 minutes or one hour exposures.
 
The QHY8L/8PRO has very low readout noise, typically 6e- or 7e-. In a dark site it can give you a simple and easy way to capture deep sky objects without the complexity and high cost of RGB filters and a color wheel, simplifying the image processing work.
 
The QHY8L/8PRO diameter is only 63mm. It is very small and very suitable for Hyperstar imaging.
 
The QHY8L/8PRO comes with the cable clip and ensures a solid power and data connection.

How to select QHY8L/8PRO

The QHY8L has a lower price than QHY8PRO.
The major different is the CCD sensor. The QHY8L used a Two-field readout sensor.  After the exposure the Red and half of the Green pixels are readout first. Then the Blue and the other half of the Green pixels are readout. QHYCCD uses technology to keep the two field exposure period the same.  For long exposures, there is no difference for them. To capture fast movement, QHY recommends the progressive scan sensor of QHY8PRO.
The QHY8L-C ultra-small size and round body is ideal for Hyperstar applications. The two channel readout is optimized to ensure that the exposure times are consistent.
If shooting still images, there is no discernible performance difference between the QHY8L-C and QHY8PRO-C. Sensitivity and color are essentially the same. However, if you are shooting a fast moving object, or if the object changes significantly during the exposure process, it is recommended to use QHY8PRO as its progressive scan will render such objects more uniformly than the QHY8L-C.
